Dr. Supratik Roychowdhury
Professional Profile
Dr. Supratik Roychowdhury has been working as a Scientific Officer in the Materials Processing & Corrosion Engineering Division at BARC since 1998. He completed his B.E. in Metallurgical Engineering from REC, Rourkela (now NIT, Rourkela), M.Tech. in Materials Science, and PhD in Corrosion Science & Engineering from IIT Bombay. He was awarded the Marie Curie research grant (COFUND scheme) for pursuing post-doctoral research at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Switzerland, from 2013 to 2015.
Research Interests
Dr. Roychowdhury’s primary research interests include:
- Corrosion and Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) of nuclear structural materials in simulated nuclear reactor water chemistry (SCC initiation and growth).
- Hydrogen embrittlement and flow-accelerated corrosion.
- Providing metallurgical support, including failure analysis and material selection.
- Delivering lectures on corrosion-related topics.

Dr. Roychowdhury has received several accolades and awards in recognition of his work:
- Best M.Tech. Thesis Award.
- Excellence in Corrosion Science and Technology Award from NACE International India Section.
- Best PhD Thesis Award from IIT Bombay.
