Current Role

Dr. S S Gupta is currently serving as an Adviser (Technical) at the Centre for High Technology (CHT), Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.

Education and Career

Dr. Gupta holds a Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering and a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He served Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) for 37 years, retiring as Executive Director (Maintenance & Inspection) in 2022.

Technological Contributions

During his tenure at IOCL, Dr. Gupta was instrumental in introducing several new technologies, including:

• IIoT-based pipeline operation.
• Software-based pipelines network integrity management.
• Asset life extension for both on-shore and off-shore assets.

Publications and Representations

Dr. Gupta has published more than 50 articles and technical papers in national and international journals. He has presented at renowned platforms such as:

• World Petroleum Congress
• Pipeline Technology Conference, Berlin
• Petrotech India

He also represented IOCL in the European Pipeline Operators Forum (POF).

Current Research Focus

Dr. Gupta’s current work is centered on the Production, Transportation, and Utilization of Green Hydrogen. His contributions include:

• Development of Engineering Standards on Hydrogen.
• Establishment of a Hydrogen test loop to assess the impact of Hydrogen in pipelines, storage vessels, and end-user equipment.
• Focus on the safe handling of Hydrogen.
