Cathodic Protection Technologist (CP3)

About the Cathodic Protection Program
Cathodic protection is a critical component of corrosion. Our Cathodic Protection Program is the only program of its kind an industry – standard that provides students with the theoretical and practical fundamentals for testing, evaluating, and designing both galvanic and impressed current cathodic protection systems. Cathodic protection systems are used across a wide array of industries and assets such as fixed offshore structures, oil & gas pipelines and storage tanks, ships, and more.
Who is the Cathodic Protection Program for?
As the most recognized and specified program in the world, our CP courses are geared towards providing the knowledge needed for certification, including testing, evaluating, and designing of galvanic and impressed current cathodic protection systems. These skills lay the foundation for successful cathodic protection work in the field, which protects companies, public assets, and the environment.
This program is designed for:
– Field Personnel
– Engineers
– Project Managers
– Technical Sales Personnel
AMPP
AMPP, The Association of Materials Protection and Performance, is a global community of professionals dedicated to materials protection through the advancement of corrosion control and protective coatings.
The 2021 merger of two leading member associations in asset protection, NACE International and SSPC, brought together over 140 combined years of service to members and industry worldwide. Together under AMPP our membership promotes the protection and performance of steel, concrete, industrial and commercial structures and surfaces.
AMPP are the global leaders in protecting assets that build our communities around the world. AMPP protects infrastructure and assets worldwide through member and workforce education and credentialing, company accreditation, technological innovation, and global standardization. It represents the largest global community of corrosion and protective coatings professionals. The members are dedicated to advancing technical and practical expertise in corrosion prevention and control. AMPP provides members with the knowledge and resources to ensure high-performance materials are used to build and maintain sustainable infrastructure.
AMPP INDIA CHAPTER
AMPP India Chapter NACE International India Section (NIIS) established in 1992. NIIS is one of the largest and most active chapters of AMPP through its significant efforts for the promotion of corrosion awareness, protection and control of corrosion in India. With over 1000 members, NIIS has organized over 200 certification courses on CIP Level 1, Level 2, Peer Review, CIP 2 Emphasis, Nuclear Power Plant course, O-CAT, PCS 2, Basic Corrosion, Direct Assessment, Internal Corrosion for Pipeline, Refinery Corrosion and Cathodic Protection 1, 2 & 3 of NACE International. It has also organized more than 150 educational corrosion awareness programs and hosted 27 annual corrosion conferences. To commemorate Corrosion Awareness Day, NIIS awards individuals and institutions for their contributions to corrosion awareness and developments in the field of corrosion science and technology. The India Chapter sponsors two student chapters, one each in Mumbai and Chennai. NIIS Student chapters had organized “CORSYM” international corrosion conference for students. NIIS is committed to enhance the quality and range of its services and activities in the field of corrosion awareness and dissemination of knowledge on corrosion, its protection and control in India and worldwide.
Cathodic Protection Technologist (CP3)
The Cathodic Protection Technologist certification indicates knowledge of theoretical concepts and practical application of cathodic protection with a strong focus on interpretation of cathodic protection data, and cathodic protection troubleshooting.
The Cathodic Protection Technologist course spare builds on the technology presented in the Cathodic Protection Technician course with a strong focus on interpretation of CP data, troubleshooting, and migration of problems that arise in both galvanic and impressed current systems, including design calculations for these systems. Classroom instruction is comprised of lectures and hands-on training, including using equipment and instruments for CP testing.
Who Should Pursue and Apply?
This program is intended for persons with extensive field experience and a strong CP technical knowledge who need an understandingof CP design procedures based on an improved knowledge of CP concepts.
Course Learning Objectives
- Define activation, concentration, and resistance polarization, and the mathematical expressions of these concepts.
- Recall the factors that affect polarization (area, temperature, relative movement, ion concentration, oxygen concentration)
- Apply the NACE criteria for CP and make necessary adjustments
- Identify errors in data collection/CP measurements, including contact resistance errors, voltage drop errors, and reference electrode errors, where the technologist is employed
- Determine ideal current distribution for a CP system based on diffrent the affecting factors
- Apply advanced cathodic protection testing, correct measurement techniques to monitor CP system performance, and accurately interpret the data collected to ensure optimum CP system performance
- Determine corrective action to the CP system if necessary
- Conduct and document interference tests to determine if DC or AC interference exists, identify the source, and implement a method of control to mitigate the effects of stray current
- Design and install simplistic forms of galvanic and impressed current cathodic protection facilities and perform the necessary mathematical calculations.
