Direct Assessment is part of US and India’s mandatory standard for pipeline integrity management for gas systems- ASME B31.8S
5-Day Classroom Course
Days 1-4: 8 am to 5 pm
Day 5: 8 am to noon, unless otherwise noted

Learning Objectives – the goal is to prepare students to:

  • Understand DA and the relationship to an overall pipeline corrosion integrity management program
  • Recognize the benefits and limitations of DA
  • Understand industry standards related to DА
  • Differentiate DA from other pipeline integrity methods
  • Perform quality assurance
  • Establish corrosion rates
  • Understand responsibilities of the operator and/or service provider
  • Understand the DA Phases:
    – Pre-Assessment
    – Indirect Inspections
    – Direct Examinations
    – Post-Assessment
  • Recognize the different types of DA
    – External Corrosion Direct Assessment (ECDA)
    – Internal Corrosion Direct Assessment (ICDA) 13 12
    – Stress Corrosion Cracking Direct Assessment (SCCDA)
    – Confirmatory Direct Assessment (DA)

The course is presented in a format of lecture, discussion and group exercises. The course concludes with a written examination at the end of the week.

NACE International Gateway India Section

NACE International Gateway India Section was established in 1992. It has become one of the largest and most active sections of NACE International through its significant contributions for the promotion of corrosion awareness, protection and control in India and globally. It has done this by organizing annual conferences/seminars as well as education programs and workshops every year. NIGIS is committed to enhancing the quality and range services and activities promoting awareness and control of corrosion.

NIGIS has more than 1150 members and it has organized over 100 courses that include CIP Level I & II, CIP Level-II Nuclear course & Maritime Emphasis, CIP Peer Review certification courses and Refinery Corrosion courses, during the last five years. It has also held 20 annual conferences.

NIGIS recognizes that it must encourage the growth of corrosion science not only as a subject but also as a career through the development of professionals associated with it. To this end. NIGIS started the initiative of ‘Corrosion Awareness Day’ where awards are presented to individuals and institutions for their contributions to corrosion awareness and developments in the field of corrosion science and technology

The Direct Assessment course will concentrate on internal, external and stress corrosion cracking direct assessment along with pre and post assessment, quality assurance, data analysis and integration, and remediation and mitigation activities. The course will also cover the benefits and limitations of Direct Assessment, its relationship to an overall integrity assessment program and industry standards, regulations and best practices.

NACE is recognized as an Authorized Provider of Continuing Education Units by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). To receive CEUs, participants are required to be engaged in the entire course and successfully pass the final exam. At the conclusion of the course you will be asked to complete a course evaluation.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

The Pipeline Corrosion Integrity Management Program (PCIM) is a comprehensive training and certification program that is designed to train a wide range of pipeline professionals from field personnel to engineers management. Individuals responsible for the implementation and/or management of an integrity program for a pipeline system with an emphasis on integrity verification and maintenance optimization should attend.

Prerequisites: No prior training required, but 8 years of work experience or 4 years work experience and 4 year degree in Physical Science or Engineering is recommended.
